Angioplasty for Chronic Total Occlusions (CTOs)
Chronic Total occlusions (CTOs) are defined as completely blocked arteries where the blockages have been known to be present for three months or more. The heart muscle supplied by the blocked artery suffers damage due to the absence of blood supply. In many cases, such damage is partial since collateral blood vessels arise from neighbouring arteries to supply the affected area. The collateral blood flow serves to keep the muscle alive, but the muscle function remains poor.
