At Aster we take breast feeding very seriously and make all efforts to see mothers get a smooth beginning with breast feeding. We realise that early initiation plays an important role in successful establishment of breast feeding. We start skin to skin contact and initiation of breast feeding soon after birth in normal babies. We train all the nurses and other health workers who come in contact with mothers and babies about all aspects of breast feeding so that mothers get proper advice on breast feeding. We also have a dedicated lactation counselor who sees every mother with a new born baby everyday and help them with proper positioning and attachment. Her visits also help us to identify any other issues like nipple problems and take corrective actions early. In fact almost all our mothers goes home with full confidence about proper feeding techniques.
We also have regular antenatal classes for expecting mothers. Here they are counseled about the advantages of breast feeding and make them understand why it's important to exclusively breast feed their babies for the first 6 months. So we believe it is essential to prepare mothers early and motivate them for a successful breast feeding.
